Sway: The Hit*

Sony Music signed Runga in September of 1995, releasing her song "Drive." It entered the Top 10 in New Zealand and won her the Silver Scroll Songwriting Award in 1996. She next released "Bursting Through", her first single from her upcoming album, also entitled Drive.

Early success eventually led to the release of her album Drive in 1997. Runga's song "Sway", along with a duet with Dan Wilson of Semisonic called "Good Morning Baby", both made their way into the film American Pie. Six singles were released from the album, while "Sway" was released in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

INTRO: D E D E

Verse 1
A C#m
Don't stray, don't ever go away

D
I should be much too smart for this

You know it gets the better of me

A C#m
Sometimes, when you and I collide

D E
I fall into an ocean of you, pull me out in time

F#m C#m
Don't let me drown, let me down

D E
I say it's all because of you

A C#m
And here I go, losing my control

D
I'm practising your name so I can say it to your face

A C#m
It doesn't seem right, to look you in the eye

D
Let all the things you mean to me

E
Come tumbling out my mouth

F#m C#m
Indeed it's time to tell you why

D E
I say it's infintely true

CHORUS:

A E F#m
Say you'll stay, don't come and go

C#m E
Like you do

A E F#m
Sway my way, yeah I need to know

C#m
All about you

Verse 2 (same chord pattern):
And there's no cure, and no way to be sure
Why everything's turned inside out
Instilling so much doubt
It makes me so tired - I feel so uninspired
My head is battling with my heart
My logic has been torn apart
And now it all turns sour
Come sweeten every afternoon

(repeat CHORUS twice)

E D
It's all because of you

E D
It's all because of you

F#m C#m D E
Now it all turns sour, come sweeten every afternoon

F#m C#m D E
It's time to tell you why, I say it's infinitely true

(repeat CHORUS twice)

It's all because of you
It's all because of you
It's all because of you
